The Story Behind This 1963 Porsche 356B T6

A Forgotten Porsche Waiting to Be Saved

When the Porsche was discovered in a garden in 2015, it had been covered with a weatherproof tarpaulin.

What should have protected the car had unfortunately contributed to its deterioration. Moisture and condensation trapped beneath the cover had created the perfect conditions for corrosion.

Over the years, rust attacked the floor structure and several important sections of the body.

But beneath the damage was still something worth saving.

A Porsche 356B T6 Coupé.

A piece of Porsche history.

And, more importantly, someone's dream.

Giving up was never really an option.

Nine Years to Bring a Porsche 356 Back to Life

Passion Cannot Be Measured in Hours

What followed was an extraordinary restoration journey.

For approximately nine years, countless hours of private time, dedication and financial investment went into rebuilding the body of the Porsche.

Corroded areas had to be repaired. Structural sections were reconstructed and welded. Piece by piece, the Porsche slowly came back to life.

This was not a quick restoration.

It was persistence.

It was dedication.

It was the decision to keep going when walking away would have been easier.

And behind it all was one vision:

To see this Porsche 356 back on the road again.

Porsche 356B T6 Patina – “Our Baby”: From Forgotten Barn Find to a Dream Come True

Some Porsche stories begin in Stuttgart.

Others begin on a racetrack.

This one began beneath a weatherproof cover in a garden.

This 1963 Porsche 356B T6 Coupé, powered by a 1600cc Porsche 912 engine, was discovered as a forgotten Barn Find in 2015.

What followed was not simply a restoration.

It became a nine-year journey of determination, craftsmanship, sacrifice and passion – and ultimately the realization of one man's lifelong dream.

Together, we gave the project a name:

“Our Baby.”

And that is exactly what this Porsche became.

A Lifelong Porsche 356 Dream

From the Netherlands to JackSeven Fine Patina Art

The owner lives in the Netherlands and is a member of the Porsche 356 Club Nederland.

For him, the Porsche 356 is far more than simply a classic sports car.

It is his dream car. His passion. His lifelong ambition.

As the project developed, the relationship between owner, vehicle and JackSeven became increasingly personal.

At some point, we stopped simply calling it “the Porsche project.”

We gave it a name:

“Our Baby.”

Because after so many years of work, decisions, setbacks, anticipation and emotion, this Porsche had become exactly that.

Something deeply personal.

The Porsche 356B Patina Begins

A New Surface for an Old Soul

Before the actual Porsche 356B Patina could begin, the extensively repaired body required intensive preparation.

Nine years of reconstruction and welding had saved the Porsche – but now the body needed the right foundation for the next chapter of its story.

The surface was carefully prepared and refined before the complex patina process could begin.

But the objective was never to create another flawless, high-gloss Porsche restoration.

After everything this car had been through, perfection would have told the wrong story.

We wanted something different.

A surface with history.

A Porsche that looked as though decades of driving, sunlight, weather, repairs and human touch had naturally shaped its appearance.

Creating Decades of Porsche History by Hand

Patina Is Not Random – Every Detail Needs a Reason

Creating convincing Porsche patina is about much more than sanding through paint or simply adding artificial signs of age.

Every faded section needs a reason.

Every worn edge needs to belong exactly where years of use could have created it.

Every exposed paint layer needs to make sense.

Throughout the project, one question guided the creative process:

  • How would this Porsche have aged if its surface had developed naturally over decades?

  • Where would hands have touched it?

  • Where would sunlight have faded the paint?

  • Which edges would show wear?

  • Where might traces of old repairs or previous paint layers become visible?

The finished surface had to tell one continuous and believable story.

From several meters away, you see a beautiful old Porsche.

Walk closer and more details begin to appear.

Look again – and you discover something new.

That is Fine Patina Art.

A Special Visit During the Porsche 356 Patina Process

Sharing a Passion for the Porsche 356

During the work on “Our Baby,” JackSeven also welcomed the chairwoman of the Porsche 356 Club Nederland to the workshop in Germany.

It was an opportunity to take a closer look at the work in progress, examine the individual details of the patina and spend time talking about a subject everyone involved could discuss for hours:

The Porsche 356.

Moments like these are an important part of an extraordinary project.

Because classic automobiles are not only about metal, engines and paint.

They bring people together.

More Than 400 Photographs – Every Step Documented

Almost Live from the JackSeven Workshop

For a project this personal, the owner needed to be more than someone waiting for his finished Porsche hundreds of kilometers away.

He needed to become part of the journey.

Throughout the creation of the Porsche 356B Patina, the project was extensively documented with more than 400 photographs, numerous videos and live WhatsApp video calls.

Individual stages could be discussed together.

Details could be examined.

Ideas could evolve.

Decisions could be made together despite the distance between the Netherlands and the JackSeven workshop in Germany.

It was more than project documentation.

It became a shared experience.

Not Perfect. Personal.

When a vehicle has survived this much, its finished appearance should have something meaningful to say.

“Our Baby” was never intended to look like a Porsche that had just left the showroom.

Its character should make you stop.

Look.

Come closer.

And eventually ask the question we love hearing most:

“Is that really original?”

That moment is what makes the countless hours spent developing the smallest details worthwhile.

Because believable patina should not immediately reveal how it was created.

It should make you believe the story.

From a Garden to the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart

The Moment “Our Baby” Came Home

After nine years of restoration and the intensive final transformation at JackSeven Fine Patina Art, the time finally came to return the Porsche to its owner.

But a story like this deserved something more memorable than an ordinary workshop handover.

The ceremonial vehicle handover took place at the entrance of the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart.

For a Porsche that had once been discovered deteriorating beneath a cover in a garden, it was an emotional destination.

And “Our Baby” did not go unnoticed.

Visitors to the Porsche Museum and passers-by stopped.

They looked.

They came closer.

Questions were asked and conversations about the unusual appearance and patina of the Porsche began.

Exactly what great patina should do:

Make people curious.

From a forgotten Porsche in a garden to the entrance of the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart.

What a journey.

From Barn Find to Porsche 356 Registry Magazine

A Porsche Story That Travelled Beyond Germany and Holland

The story did not end in Stuttgart.

Only a few months later, this remarkable Porsche 356B T6 from the Netherlands attracted international attention.

The Porsche 356 Registry Magazine featured the Porsche and its story, bringing “Our Baby” to an international community of Porsche 356 owners, collectors and enthusiasts.

A Porsche once forgotten beneath a cover in a garden had become a car people wanted to see, discuss and write about.

For everyone involved, it was a special recognition of a project built not only with metal and paint.

It was built with years of commitment, craftsmanship, friendship and passion.

One Porsche. Nine Years. Hundreds of Details. One Dream.

“Our Baby”

From a deteriorating Barn Find discovered in 2015...

to nine years of rebuilding and welding...

from the Netherlands to the JackSeven workshop in Germany...

through more than 400 photographs, videos and countless conversations...

to an unforgettable handover at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart...

and finally into the pages of Porsche 356 Registry Magazine.

This Porsche represents everything we believe an extraordinary automotive project can be.

Not simply a restoration.

Not simply paint.

Not simply patina.

A story.

A friendship.

A lifelong dream brought back to life.

And ultimately:

A Porsche 356 with a Soul.

This is “Our Baby.”

One Porsche. One Story. One Patina.
